10 Scientific Terms with Religious Implications
Rather than viewing science as hostile to religion, much of the terminology relied upon by physicists buttresses our Christian beliefs. Consider the following examples.
Bernoulli’s Equation—The rule stating that a cardinal entering the conclave as a pope will come out a cardinal. Named for 17th century Italian cardinal and one-time papabile.
String Theory—Enough people saying the rosary over time will usher in an era of peace.
Repulsive Forces—Refers to the action of Satan and his minions.
Quark—Generic name for the oddest animals Noah allowed onto the boat.
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle—The reason why the Scribes and Pharisees did not believe Jesus was the Messiah.
Falling Bodies—From Luke 10:18, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
Coriolis Effect—Prayers north of the equator ascend in clockwise motion to God, whereas prayers in the southern hemisphere do so counterclockwise. People right on the equator are in trouble. Named after 4th century Pope.
Weak Interaction—The reason why prayers of those who are not true believers tend to go unanswered.
